What is the official game format we're playing at outdoor this year? In all previous outdoor lasertag events at Armageddon we played straight up capture-the-flag ellimination. The only exception was the UK Combatsports, where we played team elimination.

I'm hearing rumors that we're playing some strange capture the center flags game format with 5 flags, team elimination with each player getting only 3 lives. Is this true?

Ricky, please post what the outdoor settings will be. All i'm hearing is rumors, and i'd really like to know what we'll be playing. I'm getting a group for outdoor tag this friday playing on the brand new Gen2 Battlefield sports system, and it would be good to practice the game format we'll be playing. Thanks.

I don't know the details, but when I talked to Nate it sounded like it was 5-flag center-flag + team elim. Get 1 point by hanging a flag at your base. A player can only carry 1 flag at a time. If eliminated while carrying the flag, then the flag is dropped (as opposed to returned). No points given for flag pulls. In the event that a team has an equal number of flag-hangs winner is determined by hit count(?) or score(?) from tagging players. I would assume that a fully eliminated team is an automatic loss.

I vote for a straight-forward capture-the-flag 9 live elimination, or 9 live team elimination. We've used these game formats in previous Armageddons and they worked well. They are also familiar formats used at countless other outdoor lasertag sights across the world. There is ample online reference to these standard game formats. I don't think we should be playing any game format that isn't already posted somewhere on an outdoor lasertag website.

I've played a variety of outdoor tag game formats at a several different sites, and i've never heard of this 5-center-flag format. It's nowhere on any of the battlefieldsports, combatsports or adventuresports pages. I strongly object to this unknown and unproven game format.

I also hear that we only get 3 lives in an elimination. Again i think this is without precedent, as none of the Battlefieldsports game formats or Combatsports formats posted online have starting lives this low for an elimination game. Let's stick with what we know works, and vote against these unproven new game formats that nobody has ever heard of.

I'll never forget the 2007 UK Armageddon when it was somehow decided to play (ie Beta-Test) the new President game format for Ultrazone Nexus. It was a disaster.

Combatsports or other outdoor lasertag websites that show either normal capture-the-flag or team-elimination game formats:

That format was provided by Zone EU and was a complete pile of wank. One thing is for sure - we aren't playing that again! :p

I just don't want a repeat of that experience. Has anybody every heard of a 5-flags-in-the-center capture the flag format for outdoor? I've played at several outdoor centers and i've never heard of it. I've also asked several other outdoor players i know and none of them have ever heard of it.

I don't think Armageddon should use a completely unheard of game format for outdoor. Let's stick with what we know works.

Capture-the-flag elimination and Team-elimination are standard game formats that every player, indoor and outdoor, is familiar with and requires minimal briefing. We shouldn't be experimenting with some new unproven outdoor game format for a major tournament like Armageddon. We should use what most other outdoor centers use for their competitions. Capture-the-flag elimination and Team-elimination are standard competition formats for outdoor lasertag. I vote for capture-the-flag first, with 9 lives elimination.
